CDC Project

‘Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’

Europia is collaborating with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust on a research project exploring barriers to diagnostic testing.

This project aims to explore the experiences of Central and Eastern European nationals with accessing health and social care services in England, with a focus on diagnostic testing.

This will include sharing experiences about participants’ current engagement with primary care services and, the positive and negative aspects associated with accessing healthcare.

We are also interested in knowing the experience of the communities in regards to accessing diagnostic testing in the England. That would include people’s level of knowledge and understanding about different types of testing and the process involved when being referred to specilised testing. And most importantly, any barriers that people face that prevent them from easily accessing these services.

These recommendations will be shared with diagnosticians and diagnostic centers across Greater Manchester to emphasis the needs of migrant communities and explore ways services can become more culturally appropriate.

The study consists of two parts: An Online Survey and a Focus Group. It will run from May to September 2023.

Online Survey

An online survey will be distributed to generate learning about general ease and engagement with primary care providers and explore the level of understanding of processes involved with accessing diagnostic testing in the England and any barriers that individuals experience.

  • The survey will take approximately 10-15 min to complete.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw for a chance to win £50 Love2Shop voucher.

Focus Groups

  • The focus groups will allow us to go in more depth about the individual experiences of the different communities and provide case studies with recommendations that come directly from the heart of these communities. The focus group will take approximately 1.5-2 hours. Participants will receive a £25 Love2Shop voucher as compensation for their time.
