Roma Advocacy Project

During these unprecedented times, it is important to provide support to the most vulnerable Roma/Gypsy community members to ensure they have their basic needs met. Roma/Gypsy community are one of the most persecuted communities in Europe. Most of these community members are uneducated and face severe social stigma. Here in the U.K, they are often denied access to healthcare as they physically do not look European. Therefore we have now appointed a bilingual Roma Advocacy Worker to provide phone advocacy support and signposting services.

You can take a look at our previous advocacy work through our case study.

We have a dedicated phone number (+44) 7561 366272 which will be open Monday to Wednesday 10 am to 5 pm and clients will be able to leave voice messages outside these times.

Roma Women’s Project

Europia is facilitating a project with a group of Roma women in Greater Manchester, supporting them to come together and grow herbs, share recipes and make new friends. This project is in partnership with Greater Manchester Systems Changers and funded by Lankelly Chase Foundation. Although this project is now full, you can sign up to our newsletter to keep updated with any future projects like this.

Research project – A Community on the Edge: Rethinking support to EU Roma Communities

Europia has produced an article about the experience of EU Roma in Levenshulme, Gorton and Longsight, which has been published by MACC as a part of their No Going Back publication. No Going Back shares the experiences of leaders in voluntary sector organisations, specifically during the COVID-19 crisis.

Please fill out this short survey  to read and download our article. More information about the full publication can be found here

Tele-befriending Project

Europia is launching a new Tele-befriending line specifically aimed at reaching vulnerable Roma community members. It aims to provide a professional, friendly ear to those that need someone to talk to whilst suffering from loneliness or social exclusion. You can read more about this project on our dedicated Tele-befriending page.

This project is funded by Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership.
