Europia Arts Collective

Europia Art Collective was co-founded in 2019 and is a collective of 18 established and emerging artists from Eastern Europe who now live and create work in Manchester; adding to the diverse creativity that springs from the city.

b.1979 (Latvia). Lives in Didsbury, South Manchester. Baiba is a portrait artist working across digital and oil painting and the owner of Egoiste Gallery based in Affleck’s Palace, Manchester. Baiba was born effectively blind in one eye. Over the years her other eye got bad too, so now she needs powerful aids to see. Because of this, images and colours have a very powerful impact on Baiba, frequently remaining her my mind`s eye permanently - like a library.

b.1975 (Poland). Lives in Denton, Manchester. Mateusz is a visual artist and abstract painter, publisher, art curator, sculptor and performer. He describes his work as an expressive experiment. He is currently a member and resident of Rogue Artists’ Studios & Project Space CIC in Manchester.

b.1993 (Romania). Lives in Whalley Range, South Manchester. Corina graduated from the University of Salford in 2015 in Bsc Psychology & Criminology. Corina is a self-taught artist and works under the name hippiezilla. She creates colourful, cinematic, organic flowing visual projections for live events, including bands, performances and festivals. Most recently, Corina has started curating Step Sessions - a free music night at The Hilary Step in Chorlton, focused on improvised sets and works in progress - alongside Manchester producer and musician, Shunya. Corina is also Assistant Advice Worker with Europia.

b.1996 (Bulgaria). Lives in Victoria Park, South Manchester. Aleksandar graduated from The University of Manchester in B.Sc. (Hons) Artificial Intelligence. He is a digital artist exploring Artificial Intelligence and how recorded real world footage can be distorted/augmented with computer generated graphics. He runs his own project CHEX and performs as part of the audio visual trio OTOMATT. Aleksandar is also IT Salesforce Assistant with Europia.
Sanja Govorcin

b.1988 (Austria/Bosnia and Herzegovina). Lives in Bolton. Sanja is a singer and songwriter, predominantly in 'pop' related music, writing original songs in English, as well as performing music from the Balkans. Her influences are very varied, from songwriters such as Feist or Jesca Hoop to music from the Balkans and Brazil. She joined Music Action in 2018 as a facilitator for Harmonise. Sanja is a mentee with Brighter Sound and she has recorded her upcoming first solo EP Bees. The five tracks were produced by Manchester-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Alan Keary (alias Shunya), in collaboration with musicians from Austria and Manchester.

Katarzyna Jablonska is a figurative drawing artist trained by Piotr Krol (Luna Gallery, Lodz, PL) and graduated from BA (Hons) Interactive Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University 2011. She works with figurative drawing and painting, combining her two passions of creative expression and spirituality in her work.

b.1994 (Poland). Lives in Salford. From September 2020, Magdalena will study Fine Art in Manchester. She is an artist and activist and creates masks using recycled materials in workshops where people can transform negative emotions into positive. She is currently collaborating with Kristina Karpanuka from EARTS on a conceptual performance about climate change. Most recently, Magdalena has been working with an Iranian director and activist on a video about human rights and child slavery in the Middle East.

b.1986 (Poland), Lives in Victoria Park, South Manchester. Karol Kochanowski graduated in 2013 from Manchester Metropolitan University in Fine Art (BA) and works from Wellington Studios, Manchester. He is a multidisciplinary artist, working mainly with oil paint. His works have been exhibited internationally, including in London, New York, Berlin, Raleigh (North Carolina) and Manchester. Karol was with winner of Manchester Open Award: Granda Foundation Gallery exhibition at HOME in 2020. He is also Volunteer Coordinator and EU Settlement Scheme Worker with Europia.

b.1979 (Poland). Lives in Oldham, North Manchester. Anya studied Health Practices and Pedagogy, graduating with a Masters Degree in Poland. Anya SoulMade is her creative practice. She is interested in the relationship between art and wellbeing and works in mediums of sculpture (wood and clay), poetry, and as an art therapist. Her vision is to create communities which grow up with wellbeing and express themselves through art making. She works from the Centre for International Women Artists (CIWA), Oxford Road, St Peter’s House, Manchester.

Originally from Poland, Miroslaw now has a dual citizenship between Poland and England. Miroslaw started his creative path in Poland fascinated by how graphic design, visuals and typography have an impact all around us - in books, advertising (propaganda posters, brochures, leaflets, commercials) and packaging. As a mature student, Miroslaw is currently exploring visual expression, photography and digital design for his personal & professional development.

Ivona Torovin graduated in 1996 from Poznan University of Fine Arts with MFA Ivona Torovin is a visual artist, working mainly with acrylic and oil paint, also making murals and monoprints. Her works have been exhibited internationally in group and solo exhibitions in Lithuania, Poland, Austria and UK (Manchester, Bury, Cheadle and Gatley). Ivona also blends her creative practice with working in a local Primary School and tutoring at her Artsy Armadillo Art Club in the Wythenshawe Community. As a visual artist, working in figurative and narrative based painting, Ivona finds humour, spirituality and paradox equally inspiring during her creative process.

b.1978 (Lithuania). Lives in New Moston, Manchester. Kristina won the Defrozo Portrait Photography Contest 2014. She was a finalist in the Beauty of Plants in the International Garden Photographer of the Year Competition 13. Kristina is curious about the major human and art development periods such as Renaissance, Baroque, and Romanticism, and turns to the way people dressed, spoke and behaved in each of them for inspiration. She finds it exciting that Italian painter Lorenzo Lippi tells a different story with every painting, and tries to achieve the same in her photography. Using only macro-photography technique, Kristina is curious about revealing details of nature in all of its beauty and frailty. She prefers her photography to be called Nature Art and invites people to hang on to timeless moments in this ever rushing world.

Europia Art Collective (EARTS) Annual Report 2019-2020

The Europia Arts Collective (EARTS) has compiled an annual report for 2019-2020 where you can find a summary of the projects that took place. In our first year we launched: a number of exhibitions, performance events, public discussions, workshops, visited the European Parliament and were nominated for two awards.
